Loathe to be branded as “iron roosters”—birds so miserly they refuse to part with a single feather—and facing a requirement to publish corporate social responsibility reports if shares are traded on specific exchanges, some of China’s largest corporations are experimenting with philanthropy as a way to polish their leadership credentials and reputation.
